We’re sorry but while this car may still be available, this ad had expired.

1968 Oldsmobile 442 convertible
VIN 344678Mxxxxxx

400 cubic inch engine
4 speed
2 (dual) exhaust

I had hoped to have the 442 ready for the Carlisle GM show, but the fabric top has not been installed.

$31,500 as is.
This is much less than I have invested into the car. After I get the top installed, the car will be completed and the price will go up considerably. You could have a wonderful freshly-restored 442 at this price if you are willing to finish the minor work and get a top installed. Top installation (labor and quality fabric) will run about $1200 based on two quotes I have received.

I'll list the major items. If you have strong interest and any questions, email me and put "442" in the subject line.

Complete frame-off restoration on this 1968 Olds 442. All body work and mechanical work completed by professionals. Less than 600 miles of local driving since the car got back on the road.

400 cubic inch engine with WZ manifolds and correct C heads.
Engine was completely rebuilt (bored 0.030 over) by Phil Bennedict (Quincy, PA)
Rochester Quadrajet carburetor and Muncie M-20 four-speed transmission also completely rebuilt by Phil Bennedict Auto Service & Machine Shop.
(Engine is not original to the car and was obtained [complete from carb to oil pan] from a 1969 442 4-speed car.)

Rear is an open differential. When rebuilt with new bearings and seals, gear teeth were counted and gear ratio was calculated to be 3.31 (although the axle is coded for 3.08).
Starter is a high-torque mini-starter.

The body sheet metal and suspension parts were sandblasted. Suspension parts, boxed frame and inside of car were painted with POR-15 and top-coated with semi-gloss black. Underside was painted in self-etching primer and top-coated with semi-gloss black. New body-to-frame bushings were installed. Suspension bushings were replaced on front A-arms. Rear anti-sway bar and boxed trailing arms are original to the car.

Paint is the original color Saffron (aka: Butternut Yellow) with correctly-positioned black 442 fender stripes.

Rear quarter panels were replaced. Rear bottoms of both fenders (behind tires) were replaced with patch panels, otherwise all sheet metal is original to car.

Power Steering and Power Brakes were not original to the car but came from a donor '68 Cutlass.
Front disc brake conversion was installed professionally (from Stainless Steel Brake Corp.)

A period-correct Sun tachometer replaces the clock in the right-most dash portal.

3-core Radiator is new.
Exhaust system, including H-pipe, is new.
Original front and rear bumpers were rechromed. Rear bumper has exhaust cut-outs for trumpet exhaust tips.
Wheels are 15" SSII wheels. They were sandblasted prior to primer and paint.
Convertible top frame was cleaned and painted with new rubber seals installed.
Convertible top motor, cylinders and hoses are new. (ATF used as the hydraulic fluid)
Seat frames (both front and rear) were stripped, sandblasted and painted prior to new seat foams and upholstery professionally installed.
BFGoodrich tires are new.

The car is a solid, quality Oldsmobile. The only reason I am selling it is because I have several other projects in the works, and not enough time to finish and enjoy all of them.
