We’re sorry but while this car may still be available, this ad had expired.

I have a 1972 Olds 442-W30 rolling chassis -(correct x-code Vin#) with NY registration stub (NO TITLES FOR 1972 IN NY). They only made 680 W30's in '72 and there can't have been more than 1/2 of them 4 speed cars-The car is very rusty, but is restorable- it has all of its sheetmetal including a pretty banged up original fiberglass cold air hood-which a really good bodyperson could repair (these hoods bring tons of cash in decent shape-2-grand & up or go repro for similar $) and the hood hinges. I WILL NOT SELL THE HOOD SEPARATELY.
I do not have the engine or transmission- both sold off years ago,so it won't be a numbers matching car (it would be really important to get a correct replacement engine -datecode correct etc.).
The cars' color is Viking blue with black side stripes (a poor repaint for the most part and the black stripes are cobbed- so they might have originally been white) and a black interior, it was originally a 4 speed car and the pedals are there as well as the HD manual front disc/rear drum brake master cylinder. There is no console, and I don't know it originally had one or not, I may have an extra shifter and clutch fork/pressure plate & disc-used. The radiator support is shot, The upper radiator mount plate is included and possibly a good fan shroud- but the lower air deflector was in bad shape and discarded. The radiator is included but will need a recore, it is a HD cooling thick core unit.
The floor and trunk floor will need work- the extent of work needs to be more closely inspected by the buyer as to whether patching or replacement is needed. The cowl and roof seem to be solid as well as the a-pillars. I have not closely inspected the frame, but it is scaley with rust and may need welding or replacement, to be determinined after the body is off and sandblasting completed- it is not broken at this time. I am against the process of the re-body process, it is not ethically correct and may be illegal as well.
The original bucket seats are still in place as well as the dash & guages -(not a rallye pack/Tick Tac dash-not standard for 72), the seats are torn up and will need new covers/cushions, all interior trim is still in place but will probably need some attention and it will need new carpet. The wiper blades, arms, linkage is all there and the motor is also included. The heater (no a/c options on W30) box is complete as well as dash control head, the radio is missing- probably am only, the glove box door is there (no 442 numbers on it for '72, that was a factory delete on 72 models).
The headliner is still in place but is hanging down in some areas so replacement likely, the seat belts-front are gone (roof -shoulder ones anyway).
The pedals are in place but no z-bar, and all the glass is in place in it-not tinted, the bumpers are there but will need rechroming- at least !,and I will include the W30 grilles but they also will need attention as well as the plastic headlight panels. I may have a couple of the parts of the OAI air cleaner (but not the plastic adapter-(which is repro'd and is very nice). It is a manual steering car, and the column and gearbox and steering linkage is all there as well as all four springs.
They repro the fenders and trunklids, quarters, wheel houses and trunk floor extensions now and they are very good quality.(The trunk floor and floor pans are also repro'd and are very nice if you find them in need of replacing-in case you are looking for a rotissery job).
The gastank is there as well as the remains of the exhaust system and the driveshaft is attached to the rear differential which appears original to the vehicle (8-1/2")-10 bolt, G80 -unknown and the ratio is likely 3.42 or 3.73. The original front disc brake spindles/rotors/calipers were sold and have a replacement drum spindle in place for transport/support purposes only. The original rear boxed control arms are still there-can't remember if the rear swaybar is there. All the minimal original chrome is still there too- but again will require work. The car is rolling on hammered Cragar SS rims and bald mismatching tires and I do not have any originals to sweeten the deal (outside of a couple used center hub caps/trim rings for the original rallye wheels) .
The front disc brake calipers and spindles were sold/traded- converted to drums to keep the car movable.
I would imagine that restored correctly-nice this vehicle would be worth a min. of $30k to a max. of-$75k due to it's rarity and Olds being discontinued- but to the right buyer, who knows- watch Barret Jackson/ Mecum.
This car needs a lot of work, but someone with sheetmetal skills would keep the resto cost in check and produce a good looking rare muscle car. Ideally this would be best as a father/son/daughter 2-3 year project on the metal, mechanical work and interior- let a pro do the bodywork & paint and keep the cost under $30,000 total.
Another thought.. Maybe a resto-mod with a new LS3, LS9 engine and a tremac transmission and vintage a/c! (this will cap the resale price to less than an original engine-drivetrain though)
I ran a parts needed list and went pricing new sheet metal, bumpers, chrome, weatherstrips and came up with with a fast $6K, and found a CORRECT engine for another $5K- so just be advised, this won't be a cheap fix & flip.
The vin tag is in place on the dash and does not show any signs of tampering at all and matches the NYS registration stub- additionally the vehicles exterior and interior color and seat option matches the assembly tag that was inside the drivers seat back panel.
If interest is strong contact me for an inspection -by appointment only -the vehicle is barn stored an hour away from the Rush area -$4,400 negotiable, but no low ball offers will be considered.

Does anyone think this one is going to get back on the road again?

If anyone is interested in this car I've looked at it and would be happy to offer my assessment.   And no, THIS car will never be on the road again. The best anyone could hope for is the VIN will survive. I can tell you for sure that the frame will not. I put my fingers right through it.

Wow, that's really to bad. But whats the point of just retaining the VIN? At that point you just open the door for a fraudulent car. I hate to say this put at the point its in now, I think its time to just part it and consider this 1 less of the 659 72 W30 hardtops out there :-/

There's really nothing to part.  The cowl tag is missing but the guy has the broadcast card so a new one can be created.   I know some people don't share my view on this but I personally believe that it's a good re-body candidate.   No one is going to pay more than $1k for this car because even with a re-body, with the drivetrain missing, it won't be worth much.

I'm ok with the cowl tag being recreated considering the docs he has, but really... why would someone go through all the work to rebody the VIN? I feel like the intentions of someone trying to pass it off as a fake W30 down the road is too high.
