Greetings everyone! I am new to this site and a first time user of any Oldsmobile forum. I have a 72 Cutlass with the 442 package and, as implied by my user name, I’m on my second round of ownership. I’ve included (if I can get them to drop into the post)a few pictures just to introduce the car and I have plenty of documentation and details I can share. I look forward to “meeting” many of you and seeing/reading more about your Oldsmobiles!

Some additional details: I purchased the car originally at age 16 in 1985, sold it in 1987 and purchased it again in about 2003. The vin includes the U for the 455, the original color was silver pewter/black (at 16 I wanted the car painted black with red stripes and it has stuck through all owners since), the hood is an authentic OAI hood that my parents found in 1985 and gave to me for Christmas to put on the car (another “must have” at 16) and the wing was added by someone who owned it between 1987 and 2003.

Excluding the front, left fender (replaced from a minor accident in 1972) all sheet metal is original. The driver side door suffered a dent in the accident noted above but was repaired. The motor and transmission are original with one rebuild (to my knowledge) in 1986 as my high school graduation gift. A friend who owned a 68 Hurst\Olds at the time built it for free after we bought the parts. Original pistons still showed the factory cross hatching and we re-ringed. Original crank turned, original rods cleaned up, heads inspected and reworked, and the cam was replaced with a 70 W-30 spec cam for an automatic (although I think someone pulled that after I sold it and went back with the original type cam - I know one guy that owned it was in his 60s and probably didn’t like the idle with the W-30 cam).

Congrats on finding your car again! Incredible (and lucky) story. Although I'm partial to the silver pewter/black color combo.... you can't go wrong with that black and red.

Thanks! I see that color on your car and it looks great! I’ve only seen a few others online in that color. Is it fairly rare or just not used a lot on restored or nice driver cars?

Honestly, I don't know. I'd say its a bit of average in that popularity realm of colors
